Dockyards and Cityscapes
A project with Millbrook Community School in partnership with
Creative Partnerships.
Participants:
Secondary pupils years 7,8,9 and 10
Project duration: Five days
Location: MillBrook Community School and on location in Southampton.
Outcomes:
Teachers and pupils learnt a range of printmaking
techniques that were successfully and effectively used in the classroom.
Pupils and teachers were able to expressively portray local cityscape
and dockyard landmarks through printmaking techniques.
Pupils gained an understanding that learning can also take place outside
of the classroom environment.
Pupils and teachers had fun and produced great work.
Pre - Project
We ran a teacher training day to introduce the teachers and assistants
to the techniques we would be getting the pupils to do during the project.
Day one
Pupils enjoyed a day out on location in Southampton drawing views from
the city walls looking out towards the docks, taking photographs and recording
sounds.
This was the main research-gathering day of the project.
Days two and three
Pupils were shown lino cutting and printing techniques and spent these
two days trying out these techniques. They tried out two colour printing
and produced some very dramatic images.
Day four
A range of mono printing techniques were shown to the pupils and they
experimented with these techniques. We also talked to the pupils about
how best to display prints and they spent time mounting their work ready
for display to the rest of the school.
‘Thank you for a great 5 days! The kids really
enjoyed it and so did I’.
Rose Parkhouse Head Of Art MillBrook Community School.
