We’ve got some great courses for you to try this Autumn. If you fancy trying your hand at relief printmaking we have a two day Lino and Wood cut course 28 – 29 September. This is a chance to explore these two techniques and make some bold, colourful prints.
For something completely different on the 26 – 27 October we have a Collagraph weekend course. If you like working with materials and using materials to make textured, collaged printing plates, this is the course for you. Collagraph is a very versatile technique that can be used in Cardcut form if you like to work illustratively or by building up different textured on a collaged printing plate, if you like to work more sculpturally or have a liking for textiles.
To coincide with the major touring exhibition which is hosted by the Seacity Museum in Southampton (11 Oct 2013 – 12 Jan 2014) we are running our ever popular Papercuts Day Sunday 3rd November. You will learn how to make delicate papercut images incorporating images and text.
For that unique Christmas gift, spend the day with us on Sunday 1 December where we will be using papercutting and collaging techniques to create Papercut lanterns. These make lovely Christmas gifts or use them to add atmosphere to your own Christmas decorations.
We have had such an incredible response to the launch of our new course The Foundation in Printmaking that we are offering an extra course on a Wednesday evening. This is an entirely new course for Red Hot Press and we are delighted to be the only print workshop in the South of England to offer this course.
Early Bird Payment:
If you enrol on The Foundation Course before 16th August you will get £50 off your first installment. Whole Course Payment: Pay for the whole course in advance and get a 10% discount on the course fee.
We have always run popular Introduction and Further courses alongside our more in-depth weekend courses. We have found over the years that there is also a demand for a longer, more comprehensive course which will challenge participants and really expand their printmaking knowledge. This course will have the rigour of a pre-degree course, but without the laborious assessments and paperwork which our participants tell us they don’t want or need.
The overall aim of this 30 week course is to transform participants into better, more accomplished printmakers and get them to the point where they can confidently and independently use the workshop to produce their own work.
We have designed the course carefully to cover not only printmaking techniques themselves, but also sessions on working with colour, understanding inks and paper. Drawing specifically for printmaking. Plus useful information about storing, displaying and exhibiting work. All the knowledge and expertise that we have learned from years of being practicing printmakers packed into one course.
The Foundation in Printmaking Wednesday evening course, starts on 11th September 2013 and runs until the 16th April 2014. The course culminates with a group exhibition hosted by the workshop. Although some experience is preferable – such as having completed an introduction or further course at Red Hot Press we are happy to take beginners on to this course with some previous art class experience.
The fee for The Foundation in Printmaking is £1200 which includes one years workshop membership and 3 free hours of workshop open access per week during the course, so you can continue individual study outside of the course timetable.
