We are really excited to announce that we now have the facilities to expose screens at the workshop! It’s been a long time coming – after all we have been open for 10 years this year but good things are worth waiting for.
It’s a really exciting development because it means that now we offer practically every type of printmaking except lithography. And it means we can offer a variety of courses that can make use of exposed screens and we are busy planning a summer of screen printing to kick things off.
If you are interested in screen printing contact us to go on our mailing list so we can keep you up to date with new courses and open access.
We have always aimed to provide new and exciting techniques at the workshop. We offer non-toxic etching with copper sulphate, were one of the first workshops in the south to teach Photo Transfer, are one of the few centres for bookbinding in the region and have also recently branched out into Photo Etching with great results.
But we don’t rest on our laurels and this year we are offing yet more new techniques. Take a look at the following and wet your appetite:
Handmade Portfolios - Sunday 2nd March 2104 – £70
We were thrilled to recently make contact with bookbinder Darren Havard and really keen to bring his amazing skills into the workshop to build on what we already offer. We have asked him to teach a day course in making a handmade portfolio. This A3 portfolio is ideal for keeping prints, photos, documents… any flat work. And we are certain that under Darren’s expert eye it will also be a thing of great beauty that you will be able to treasure for many years. The course fee includes materials – you will be required to bring the cover paper of your choice.
Handmade Paper – Saturday 17th May – £75
Have you ever wondered what makes your paper thick or thin, soft or ‘rattly’, smooth or textured? Here’s your chance to find out by making your own, from pulp to finished sheets. Come away from this one day workshop with your own unique sampler of papers, which will add a whole new understanding and a world of possibilities to your printmaking projects, from relief printing and embossing to chine collé. We are really excited to welcome papermaker Lucy Baxandall to Red Hot Press for this workshop which we know will be a really great day
Cola Litho – Saturday 28th June – £60
This fairly new technique has been an internet sensation for a couple of years. Katherine was sent the link and filed it away but recently has been experimenting with how the technique works (don’t believe everything you see on youtube!). In particular how you might register for multiple colours which is something the videos don’t touch on. It’s similar to litho and you can make quite lovely painterly prints. This course is bound to be lots of fun and there is lots of scope for experimentation and colour overlays.
To book on any of these courses you can visit www.redhotpress.org.uk/courses and print out a booking form to send to us with your payment.
We kick off 2014 with our popular Introduction to Printmaking course which starts on Monday 13th January 2pm – 5pm and runs for six weeks. This course is ideal for people who want to have a taste of a few printmaking techniques, on this course you will be introduced to these techniques; Collagraph, Monoprinting and Etching.
After this course many participants move on to our Further Printmaking courses or our ‘single technique’ courses, to look at one printmaking technique in more depth. The cost of this six week course is £140 this includes all materials and one month free workshop membership at the end of the course, so that you can access the workshop facilities to continue to produce prints.
