I had a delightful day on Saturday at The Society of Wood Engravers Exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath. The standard of work was, as you would expect, extremely high. It was also very interesting to see the addition of other relief printmaking techniques to the exhibition alongside wood engraving, including lino cuts from artists spread across the world.
Hilary Paynter was on-hand to talk about her work and gave demonstrations during the day. I was particularly taken with a print entitled “Mayday Mayday” by Jim Westergard which I’m pleased to say I’ll be getting for Christmas. The exhibition continues in to January. I really do recommend you go and see this show if you are planning a trip to Bath. It is also worth having a look at the permanent collection in the Victoria Art Gallery, admission to the permanent collection and The Society of Wood Engravers Exhibition is FREE.
